Welcome to Solstice Counseling & Wellness

At Solstice Counseling & Wellness we work with children, adolescents and adults starting at age 8. We accept most major insurance carriers and encourage you to check with your plan in advance to verify if our providers are part of your preferred network. An income-based sliding scale may also be available.

Shawn Michael Miller, PhD
Shawn Michael Miller, PhD
Shawn Michael Miller, PhD is a licensed psychologist located in Heber City, UT and owner of Solstice Counseling & Wellness.

After growing up in New York, Dr. Miller moved West to explore his love of the mountains. He received his BS in Psychology from Colorado State University and his PhD in Counseling Psychology from Washington State University. After relocating to Utah for his professional internship, he decided he would like to make it home due to its outdoor diversity. He joined the practice of Brian J. Taracena, PsyD in December 2011 and started Solstice Counseling & Wellness in April 2013.

Christian H. Monson, PsyD
Christian H. Monson, PsyD
Christian H. Monson, PsyD joined Solstice Counseling & Wellness in October 2013.

He received his BS in Psychology from Utah State University and his PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Indiana State University. During the past 12 years Dr. Monson has received training and has been employed by psychologists, mental health institutions and hospitals throughout the nation. Dr. Monson spent 6 years in Indiana where trained with a renowned psychologist in an ADHD diagnostic and treatment center, as well as the privilege to assist with a NIH funded research project exploring the effects of mindfulness on eating disorders. He then moved to Pennsylvania where he worked with physicians in a large hospital. This included pre-surgical mental health evaluations and working with a well-respected forensic psychiatrist. Before coming to Heber, he founded a psychological testing clinic in Idaho.

Justin Martel, M.S.
Justin Martel, M.S.
Justin Martel joined Solstice Counseling & Wellness in the summer of 2022.

Justin is delighted to be joining Solstice as a clinical intern as he completes the final year of his PhD from the University of Florida. Justin comes to Solstice with 4 years of experience working with various clinical populations in counseling and sport psychology settings. As a doctoral fellow, he researched the interface of mental health and sports psychology services of student-athletes. These topics are both professionally and personally close to his heart as a former Division I athlete and amateur golfer. He finds freedom and solace in the outdoors and can usually be found spending time playing with his Lab; Cubby, strength training, or working at his golf game.
